What you'll be doing

You will have ownership over mission-critical research and development, propelling us towards our goal of being the first to market at scale. In this mix of machine learning research and research engineering:

  • You will be working at the forefront of artificial intelligence for ocean conservation, working towards the development of state-of-the-art machine learning models and advanced computer vision techniques.

  • Your primary responsibilities will encompass researching, implementing, and optimizing these innovative models for various tasks, including object detection, species classification, and object tracking.

  • You will be involved in the entire ML lifecycle, from conducting research and developing innovative models to deploying them in production environments.

Minimum qualifications

  • Current Master's or Ph.D. Student in Computer Science or a related field at a registered post-graduate institution in Canada

  • Experience as a machine learning researcher, including internships, full-time, or at a lab.

  • Proficiency in programming and implementing machine learning workflows using Python (experience with C, C++, and JavaScript/TypeScript is an asset)

  • Experience in machine learning, deep learning, computer vision, serving ML models, and optimizing model performance

  • Experience in software engineering including cloud/edge development, Unix/Linux environments, distributed and parallel systems, and data engineering

  • Proficiency with PyTorch, TensorFlow, and other machine learning frameworks/tools

  • Strong technical communication skills in English, both written and verbal

  • Available to work part-time (20hrs/week) for a minimum of 12 weeks during university term time

  • Enthusiasm for building software that revolutionizes fisheries monitoring and research

Preferred qualifications

  • Previous work experience designing and implementing ML models in production environments

  • Experience as a computer vision researcher, including internships, full-time, or at a lab.
