OnDeck delivers software critical for marine conservation and commercial fisheries. Working with the Environmental Defense Fund, The Sustainable Ocean Alliance, and companies across North America and Oceania, we're revolutionizing fisheries management and ensuring sustainable fisheries for generations to come. How you’ll be involved:

As part of our team, you’ll be helping us navigate the world of impact funding, grants, hiring, and critical internal tasks. You’ll have an immense impact by being a key member of our small and growing team; this will also come with great independence and leadership. We are looking for a passionate student to join our team ASAP through paid internships, with the possibility of joining the team permanently following a successful internship.

What you’ll be doing:

As an early member on our operations team, you’ll play a critical role in helping OnDeck manage the operational challenges that come with scaling a fast-moving startup. This position offers a great opportunity for those who are looking for a career in the operations field, entrepreneurship, or for those who are considering a future in Operations Management.


  • Lead hiring & recruitment at OnDeck.

  • Setup key HR protocols and platforms for hiring and onboarding.

  • Responsible for improving our internal processes (such as payroll etc.)

  • Help us apply for and receive funding through grants and impact financing.

  • Supporting our marking & communications team to build a strong OnDeck brand.

  • Miscellaneous responsibilities relating to scaling OnDeck as a fast-moving startup.

  • We are a lean & fast startup: things move quickly and you will get significant ownership of mission-critical tasks.

  • A time commitment of 10-20 hours/week is expected.

    • We love snacks, team food adventures are likely.

  • Speaking of “coming to work”, we work hybrid.

    • In person 2-3 days/week at UBC Point Grey and Robson Square campuses.

    • Flexibility - Want to go traveling with friends around the country? No problem, as long as you take your laptop with you and are able to continue working, we can work together to accommodate.

Minimum qualifications:

Due to the funding of this role, you must be:

  • A student at a Canadian post-secondary institution.

  • A Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred.

  • Legally entitled to work in Canada without sponsorship.

Preferred qualifications:

  • A passion for startups, solving business challenges, and creating impactful technology.

  • Experience in project management and/or operations.

  • Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to work autonomously.


  • This role pays $17.50 / hour.

  • Successful candidates will likely be offered further opportunities with OnDeck beyond the scope of this internship as our team continues to grow.
