We are seeking students to help us deliver our impactful marine conservation tools and scale our rapidly growing startup.
Who we are:
OnDeck delivers software critical for marine conservation and commercial fisheries monitoring. Working with the Environmental Defense Fund, The Sustainable Ocean Alliance, and companies across North America and Oceania, we're revolutionising fisheries management and ensuring sustainable fisheries for generations to come. We are an early-stage startup taking off quickly, and we are looking for ambitious students to join our team. Our recent wins include being named a top 10 most innovative and impactful ocean-tech startup in the world by the Ocean Impact Organization, and winning Canada’s Ocean Startup Challenge.

How you’ll be involved:
You’ll be responsible for communicating the importance of sustainable fisheries and fisheries monitoring, based on existing scientific research. You’ll play a key role in creating our company’s brand and marketing strategy by communicating ocean science to both a specialised and general audience. We are looking for students to leverage existing scientific literature and communicate the importance of sustainable fisheries and fisheries monitoring to key stakeholders, in accessible and engaging ways.
What you’ll be doing:
Do you have creative ideas for improving fisheries communication at OnDeck? We'd like to hear them! As an early member on our team, you will play a critical role in building OnDeck as a fast-moving startup. Specific tasks include:
Research the positive impacts of scaling up fisheries monitoring across the globe.
Help create metrics to track OnDeck’s impact on the economy and environment.
Perform a literature review on fisheries monitoring research and communicate your findings.
Create a forecast for the maximum potential benefit of affordable & scalable at-sea monitoring.
Generally support our marketing team to communicate ocean research with a broad audience.
How we work:
We are a startup racing to be first to market! Things move fast and you will get significant ownership of mission-critical tasks.
A time commitment of 10-20 hours/week is expected.

In person 2-3 days/week at UBC Point Grey and Robson Square campuses.

Minimum qualifications:
Current undergraduate or graduate student at a Canadian university.
Eligible to work in Canada without sponsorship.
Preferred qualifications:
A passion for ocean sciences, sustainable tech solutions, and solving business challenges.
Experience in ocean and fisheries research.
Strong written communication skills.
Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to work autonomously.
