Accounting Internship

How you’ll be involved:
As part of our team, you’ll be helping us navigate the world of impact funding, grants, and critical finance and accounting functions. You’ll play a key role in improving our company’s accounting systems and protocols, and you will have considerable ownership and influence as OnDeck scales. We are looking for passionate accounting students to join our team through paid internships, with the possibility of joining the team permanently following a successful internship.
What you’ll be doing:
As an early member on our accounting team, you’ll play a critical role in helping OnDeck manage the accounting challenges that come with scaling a fast-moving startup. This position offers a great opportunity for those who are looking for a career in accounting, entrepreneurship, or for those who are considering a future in impact financing.
Specifically, you will:
Ensure robust accounting practices and procedures at OnDeck.
Help create new accounting techniques, strategy, and documentation.
Help create the financial documentation needed for incoming impact investment, philanthropy, and other financing.
Miscellaneous accounting responsibilities relating to scaling OnDeck as a fast-moving startup.
Do you have creative (and robust) ideas for improving accounting at OnDeck? We'd like to hear them!
How we work:
We are a lean & fast startup: things move fast and you will get significant ownership of mission-critical tasks.
A time commitment of 10-20 hours/week is expected.

Speaking of “coming to work”, we work hybrid.
In person 2-3 days/week at UBC Point Grey and Robson Square campuses.
Flexibility - Want to go traveling with friends around the country? No problem, as long as you take your laptop with you and are able to continue working, we can work together to accommodate.
Minimum qualifications:
Due to the funding of this role, you must be:
A student at a Canadian post-secondary institution.
A Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred.
Legally entitled to work in Canada without sponsorship.
Preferred qualifications:
A passion for good accounting, startups, climate/ocean impact, and solving business challenges.
Experience in accounting and project management.
Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to work autonomously.
Compensation:
This role pays $17.50 / hour.
Successful candidates will likely be offered further opportunities with OnDeck beyond the scope of this internship as our team continues to grow.
